A station clock has stopped. Two travelers disagree about whether they are late.
Reed’s opening
The station clock had stopped at six. Mara held up her ticket. “We are late.” Ivo pointed to the empty track. “Then why is everyone still here?” On the bench, a porter folded a newspaper along a crease worn white. Neither traveler asked him the time. Above the ticket window hung a second clock, face turned to the wall.

Your turn
Add up to 80 words that change how a reader understands the opening. Keep the opening unchanged. You might make a detail newly significant, reveal a mistaken assumption, or let someone else speak.
After your passage, add two short notes: one fact stated in the opening, and one thing your continuation invents. This makes the handoff easier to discuss without treating an interpretation as a shared fact.
For example, the second clock faces the wall; why it faces the wall is left open. You do not need to use that detail.
